About Tuttle Publishing

"Books to Span the East and West"

The Tuttle Publishing company was founded in 1832 in the small New England town of Rutland, Vermont making it one of the oldest American publishers in operation today. Since 1948, when the company established a publishing outpost in Japan, Tuttle has become a leader in producing English-language books about the arts, languages and cultures of Asia.

Though a westerner, Charles E. Tuttle was instrumental in bringing a knowledge of Japan and Asia to a world hungry for information about the East. By the time of his death in 1993, he had published over 6,000 books on Asian culture, history and art -- a legacy honored by Emperor Hirohito in 1983 with the "Order of the Sacred Treasure," the highest honor Japan can bestow upon a non-Japanese.

Tuttle Publishing is a highly respected publisher of Japanese martial arts books, including iconic titles like "Judo Formal Techniques" by Otaki and Draeger and "The Techniques of Judo" by Takagaki and Sharp. Now they have completed their catalog with "Judo Unleashed!" by Neil Ohlenkamp expected to be released by July 9, 2024.
